April showers bring May flowers! Hoping you ALL had great ones & that you are expecting beautiful growth come the new month. My April was ALL work, ALL play, & ALL good stuff. & as always, music kept me good company.

This month we started with Coconut by Harry Nilsson & Taxi by Harry Chapin! During this time, my dad has been recovering from a major ankle survey. He has moved from no weight bearing to being able to walk again! But these two are some of his favorites & we used to sing them on car rides home from grandma’s when I was a baby, so I loved the throwback! Also, Coconut ALLudes to great healing with the lines:

I said “Doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take?”
I said “Doctor, to relieve this bellyache?”
Now, lemme get this straight
You put de lime in de coconut, you drank ‘em bot’ up

Some songs I discovered while spring cleaning & spring shopping include Keep It Simple (feat. Wilder Woods) by Matoma, Petey Martin, & Wilder Woods & Bad Boy by Yung Bae, bbno$, & Billy Marchiafava.

& no month is complete without music trading! We got Up Up by Sandollar, Ready for It ALL by Wayley, & Maine by Noah Kahan through this process.  Wild + Free by Andrew Simple was a favorite of mine that I gained from a shared playlist & blasted it on lake mornings with the dog.

The Stable Song by Gregory Alan Isakov, New Song by Maggie Rogers & Del Water Gap, Count On Me by The Lone Bellow, & To the Mountains by Lizzy McAlpine were the background music for a packing day at my full-time youth development Camp job. We bring programming to hundreds of children through mailing series to serve them during the COVID pandemic.

This soundtrack continued into my one & only ALL-nighter of grad school. I think I slept 45 minutes. Favorites during the night were Celeste by Ezra Vine, FALL, FALL, FALL by Caamp, Where Did Summer Go by Bre Kennedy, & Come In Closer by Rhye. Also, during that night, I rediscovered my love of Shakey Graves with Pay The Road, Dearly Departed (feat. Esme Patterson), Hard Wired, & Tomorrow.

Old ALL time favorites, Syncopated Healing by Twiddle & Fickle Heart by Ira Wolf, made the list. Along with other classics = Let You Down by NF, Cupid’s Chokehold/Breakfast in Amsterdam by Gym Class Heroes, & Come and Get Your Love – Single Version by Redbone.

This month we also did a Virtual Superhero Event for our kids & families at work! The evening opened with themes from Avengers, Wonder Woman, & more! (The Avengers – Main Theme by Geek Music & Amazons Of Themyscira by Rupert Gregson-Williams)

April also marked the first drive-in movie of the year. It was Lord of The Rings, so Howard Shore’s The Ring Goes SouthConcerning Hobbits, & The Great Eye snuck onto the list.

Two great TV shows made a comeback this month – Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist & Good Trouble. Their songs scatter the playlist, namely Gravity by Sara Bareilles & Gasoline by Halsey.

After presenting a 45-page paper for grad school, I celebrated by attending an acapella semi-formal with a friend who was a member during our undergrad. Those boys have magical voices & sang Used To Love You by CDN around a fire. The night was a lot of fun, & it was great seeing ALL the vaccinated alumni that attended.

At work, we also celebrated the coming of spring with an outdoor gathering & time in the warmer weather together! My lovely co-workers reunited me with In The Air Tonight – 2015 Remastered by Phil Collins & Don’t Stand So Close To Me by The Police.

FinALLy, you might find trending TikTok music throughout. (We are ALL are ALLowed our guilty pleasures.) Check out Unlock it (feat. Kim Petras & Jay Park) by Charli XCX, Kim Petras, & Jay Park, & Ghost – Oliver Nelson Remix by Ella Henderson & Oliver Nelson.

Again, wishing you more growth come May!!!
