just a joyous journey

Our joyous journey that is 2021 continues into February. It is a month that is cold & feels like it is right smack dab in the dead of winter. But we can still bring fun, happiness, music, & light even in this darker season. During this month we can celebrate love & life.

Speaking about love, “Darling” by Rothwell & “Thinking ‘Bout Love” by Wild Rivers are great Valentine’s Day songs! “Everything I Love” by Temecula Road & “I Do” by Aloe Blacc also made the list. A big thank you to Bachelor Nation because through it all they manage to have great bands that play catchy tunes about love!

Other songs made the list due to the magic of Spotify Discover Weekly, including “Cemetery” by COIN, “On My Wave” by Keiynan Lonsdale, “Violet Lightning” by Lafrantz, “Gave It All 2.0” by Satellite Mode/Xiuhtezcatl, & “Easy on the Eyes” by David Ryan Harris. This brought me two of my new favorite songs to jam out to in the car!!! (“Silver Warehouse” by Silver Warehouse & “Stupid Happy” by MARS/CCCORAZON/Emilia Ali)

“S.L.U.T.” by Bea Miller is also an empowering song to blast in your car! This one came to me as a recommendation from a wonderful, former roommate. I take my friend's music recommendations very seriously (“If You Want Me to Stay” by Sly & The Family Stone, & “Tadow” by Masego/FKJ). I even go as far as taking pictures of their phones (“Home II” by Dotan) & Shazam-ing constantly to collect their amazing tastes.

“Pierre” by Ryn Weaver is another currently a favorite of mine. This song is taking over the world through Tik Tok but also has an energy of how I would like to see & travel the world.

“Bound To You” by Jocelyn Alice continues to circulate through my media. The Kaidro Acoustic Remix appeared most recently, but the Stash Konig Remix is my favorite version.

“Freckles” by Lawrence is great! It highlights the lead singer's unique voice & has their fun energy.

Also, this month, one of my amazing cousins helped produce & release the music video for “Lovin’ Relapse” by Noelle Ren. Noelle and my cousin are good friends, & this project just shows off these beautiful, talented young artists!!!

Songs like “You Know It” by Colony House, “Fire N Gold” by Bea Miller, “Gay Street Fighter” by Keiynan Lonsdale, & “She Sets The City On Fire” by Gavin DeGraw traveled with me during my nomadic CT-based experience. These songs have a unique road trip energy to them, from rock band vibes to trumpet riffs.

“Sleep Alone” by Max Styler/Ella Boh & “Trampoline” by SHAED appeared in the pilot episode of the new Netflix Original, Ginny & Georgia. Though “we’re like the Gilmore Girls, but with bigger boobs!” is a stretch of a description for the series – because nothing will compare with the Gilmore Girls – it is worth a watch!

“Poison in the Brain” by Ondi Vil/Shiloh Dynasty was found after completing my master's level statistics exam. My brain was mush & was desperately trying to find a song that rhymed “poison in the brain” with “David Blaine”. Sadly, I do not know if such a song exists but this song was a great discovery.

“Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen & “Fly” by Marshmello/Leah Culver came from an evening of night snowboarding! I always love & am so lucky when I can get out on the mountain. It does truly feel like flying!

Finally, the month closes & the journey continues with songs like “For the Stunt” by Russ & “The Journey” by Sol Rising.
